Originally from Westport, Connecticut, Carl relocated to Los Angeles from New York City when his wife began directing television.  He holds a B.A. in Literature from Denison University and M.F.A.s in Dance from Sarah Lawrence College and Musical Theater from NYU. He danced professionally in New York for several years and later choreographed musical theater.

His experience in dance and theater informs his approach to painting, as his work ethic is disciplined and attuned to the nuance of color, light, and composition.

Carl lives in Hollywood in a 1920’s Spanish Revival with his wife, with whom he has two adult children, a business student and a lawyer.  He is an avid gardener and a jazz enthusiast.

With over 30 years experience, housepaintingLA has been featured in Architectural DigestMetropolitan Home and The Los Angeles Times, in addition to many architectural and design books such as the Greene & Greene Masterworks series and Los Angeles: A Certain Style.

Carl's crew, Rigo, Jaime, Carlos, and Mauricio, are hard-working, responsible family men, several of whom have worked with Carl for over two decades. HousepaintingLA is proud to pay our workers a fair living wage.

We are licensed, bonded, and fully insured. Well versed in low V.O.C. and other environmentally friendly paint products, all paint waste products are disposed of responsibly at approved sites.

"Carl is not just a painter. He's an artist with a respect for craft, color, and light.

His approach is nothing short of perfectionist." Hanna, Beverly Hills
